Teeth Straightening Options
Most people would like to have perfectly aligned teeth, but few people are blessed with great genetics and straight teeth. Fortunately, there are a few different teeth straightening procedures that can be performed by orthodontists and cosmetic dentists. Abilene cosmetic dentist Tim Simpson uses braces, the Invisalign® system, and porcelain veneers to improve the appearance of our patients' smiles. Learn more about who is a good candidate for each of these teeth straightening procedures.
Braces
Braces are the traditional method of straightening the teeth with brackets and wires. The process can take anywhere from six months to a few years, and the treatment is usually done on children and teens. Braces can be used on patients that have minor, moderate, and severe tooth misalignment. However, adults that have crooked teeth typically do not want to have orthodontic braces placed on their teeth due to their appearance. These patients may be better candidates for alternative teeth straightening options.
Invisalign®
Invisalign® is an orthodontic system that involves the use of a series of clear aligners to gradually straighten the teeth. Each aligner shifts the teeth into their ideal position. Invisalign® aligners are far less noticeable than traditional silver braces, and they can be removed when eating, brushing the teeth, and flossing. Invisalign® is best suited for patients that only have moderately crooked teeth; patients with severely misaligned teeth are generally not good candidates for the treatment.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers don't actually straighten crooked teeth, rather they are designed to mask cosmetic flaws such as misaligned, asymmetrical teeth. Abilene porcelain veneers dentist Tim Simpson can place veneers over your natural teeth to produce a more uniform appearance. The porcelain veneers procedure involves the removal of a thin portion of your natural teeth so that your custom crafted veneers can be secured to them with a bonding solution. Patients can leave their dentist's office with straighter looking teeth in as little as two office visits.
